Why do some screen prints feel thick or like a sticker?

Plastisol ink generally sits on top of the garment rather than becoming part of the fabric itself. On smaller graphics, that may be barely noticeable. But as the printed area becomes larger, particularly with highly opaque, multicolor artwork, the amount of ink deposited on the garment can create a noticeably heavier hand.

This is why a large back print can feel dramatically different from a small left-chest print even when both are produced using high-quality screen printing.

The issue isn't necessarily plastisol itself. It's how the artwork, garment and print requirements are approached.

Why do water-based and discharge prints feel softer?

Water-based printing interacts with the garment differently and generally leaves substantially less of an ink film sitting on top of the fabric.

Discharge printing can create an even more integrated result by altering the dye within compatible garment fibers rather than relying exclusively on an opaque layer of ink to cover the garment color.
